Trails Near Wrightsville Beach/Wilmington NC
« on: June 10, 2015, 11:22:08 PM »
Hey all,

I will be spending my summer teaching sailing in Wrightsville beach NC. Does anyone know of any trails to play on here or near here? Dying to test out the pro rock and locker.  Any tips are appreciated.
Thanks!

You're sorta close to URE and you can drive on the north/ south ends of the beach at Wilmington if you fork up the money for a pass. Not sure how much it is, it went up this year. Got a few friends as in Wilmington.

I think a yearly pass is like $50
Most LCOG Builds are like a fat girl in Yoga Pants, just cause it fits doesn't mean it works...

Been scoping it out this week. For Carolina Beach a day pass is 30$ and the season is 150$. extremely pricey!!! Im going to try to hit URE this summer. Looks like great fun. Have any of you heard how easy/hard it is? I've heard it can be done stock if you pick the right lines.

If you get the yearly pass it breaks down to 41 cents a day. Does that help?  Post in advance if you go to URE. You may get company.

Everyone says "Daniel" is the hardest trail but the way your Jeep is built you can do it no problem.

Daniel was the hardest, well steepest anyway.  It all depends on how long it's been since the USFS has graded the trails and fixed the water bars. There is a turn and small ledge on Daniel that can be fun if it hasn't been smoothed out.

Kodak Rock is on Rocky Mountain loop which is a small rock obstacle section, maybe 50ft long if I remember correctly.  The rest of the trails are easy unless it's wet.

You may also want to take a trip up and down the outer banks while your there. Some pretty good scenery out there. Can take your jeep on a ferry ride, check out some lighthouses, etc.  The part I like about the outer banks is the further south your are on them the less commercialized it is.  You may find a CVS/etc on the north end where near the bridge across the sound but not south of there.  Only access to the south end is by ferry or drive all the way down from the north.

About an 1:15 past Charlotte. For me on the northwest side about 5:15 total, if 85 isn't a nightmare.

Think Beasley knob type trails.

Some XJ kid told me he did Daniel open/open on 33's. I doubt I will ever make it up that way, just too far for me. Like 7.5 hours I think.

The pass for driving on the beach is pretty expensive, but I guess it'd be worth it to go poke around for a few days. If you see a girl in a purple 4 door XJ on 31's tell her I said hey. Lol
