Our sympathy is with Don on loosing his friend but I have a question.

Does it seem like people are dying younger these days than in years before? I'm still considering 50's to be young.

My wife's uncle died a few weeks ago at 55 of a heart attack. I'm 32 and have already lived past what my mother did because she died of pancreatic cancer when I was 6 years old. Don's friend passed away in his early 30's. I'm sure other members have lost loved ones early on.

Yes, it does seem that way, but statistically we live longer than ever before (excusing biblical accounts of ages).  A lot of infant mortality has reduced, so the averages are greater.  Reduction in hand to hand and close quarters combat has increased expectancy a good bit, too.

Dad died at 59 (diabetes, and I'm sure alcohol contributed)

Mom is still "living" at 78 (I think I'd rather be dead than visit a doctor every few weeks)

Half brother died at 48 (a hard life of drugs, alcohol, and diabetes...and being an asshole...no love lost there)

Half sister still alive at 50ish

Yes?
It's a general question bud and didn't want to clutter your thread. Just looking for thoughts.

I went to my 50th HS reunion this year.  Of 114 in our class, 22 are confirmed to have died, and we can't locate another 20 or so.  Genes and behavior certainly play a part.  I was the youngest in our class and my mother lived to 107, so I intend to be the last survivor.  Whether that's actually a good idea will be seen.

I don't believe so, we're just exposed to more as we grow older.  There have always been folks called before their time. What we thought was their time anyway.

Clinton's may have gotten to them. LOL

But seriously, 107. WOW ! That's amazing.
My gramps was 94. He ate healthy, didn't drink or smoke, church every Sunday, up at sunrise & off to work on the farm. Growing his own food, other than meat, didn't hurt.
My other grandfather drank, smoked & was a douch. Died of a bad liver in his late 70s.

Just watched the entire Band of Brothers series and in there a guy needed boots. He said he needed 9 like everyone else. Wonder what the average size is now since we were talking about life and how much longer people are living and so on.
