Question...
« on: February 17, 2009, 09:56:52 AM »
Alright, when I bought the Wrangler we actually had to put it in Megan's name for the best credit since I had accidently been late on a car payment a few months prior. Well now my credit score has gone back up and we want to try and re-finance both vehicles (I had to co sign on the liberty since she had almost no credit) into our own names...

Ok now here is my question, is there a way I can avoid paying the full tag amount? Right now in megan's name the tag is good till September of 09 but if it goes into my name my birthday is in March. So are we better to refinance before my birthday, after it, or will it not matter and I will have to pay the full tax on the tag no matter when I transfer the title?

it doesnt matter when you refi it cause both your names are on there.. doesnt matter who's name is first.. on both of ours theresa is first.. just cause that is the way we did the paperwork, on the jeep mine could have been first but it makes her feel imporant.. also try e-loan for your refi i did long time ago with my other jeep and it was simple and easy.. they sent me the check and i sent it to the bank.. and kept the left over.. but i dont think you have to worry about your tags... just have to tell GDOT that you have a different lien holder.. if you go with a different one..

Have you tried your bank or the finacial institution the vehicles are financed through? They would be able to help you here. Keep us posted...Man you have some strange questions! {ehm}

I like to keep y'all on your toes!

Just asking because I have always thought whoever was first on the title had the tag in their name (and renewed on their birthday). If we put it in my name but the tag is still good to September (megans birthday) then do I not have to pay the full renewal amount. Last year was $324 so in hopes to avoid. I know when I buy a vehicle new after my birthday I only have to pay the $20 transfer fee until my next birthday. I kinda hope it works like that if I refinance after my birthday.
