Used Car Recommendations
« on: July 02, 2013, 03:25:42 PM »
Serious recommendations or cars to stay away from.

I know ones without payments are best, but I am going to trade in the Commander for something less deadly.

Looking for a 4 door sedan with decent mileage lots of space and very reliable.

Been looking at Kia Optimas and Honda Accords. Any other suggestions?

2wd JK 4 door. Just throwing it out there. Not 4wd so you would not wheel it and would not dump $ into it. I would totally minivan one of those. Tahoes are awesome. 2000 model year and up. They got the vortec 5.3 which is a great engine. Or go with an older suburban. Can't ever go wrong with those. 96-99 had good engines and transmissions. Vortec as well. But I am an old school guy, anything new to me is a piece of junk and overpriced. Plus it all looks the same, and who wants to drive something that looks like everything else on the road?

My wife  //LMAO//

But seriously, if I making the trade I want something real reliable, something not from the states  //:hlp//

I would like to double the gas mileage of the commander which is about 14.5 HWY

Something that does not randomly shut off going down the interstate.

I would consider a JKU 4x4 if priced right, if I bought a 2wd I would be looking for an axle and TC right away  //;D//

We just bought a '08 Kia Sprint5.  Compact SUV with 40mpg highway.  Quite peppy as well.

Volkswagen tdi jetta or tdi passat or tdi beetle, 2005 model and up.

45 mpg and higher. Keep the service up on them and they last a very long time.

I love honda/acura, nissan/infiniti, and toyota/lexus. My last ride before the jeep was a G35 and was a fun car.

My wife has the 2013 Hyundai Sonata turbo 4 cylinder. She drives 120 miles a day and has somewhere in the neighborhood of 25k i think. I have only changed the oil and air filter. It has no other problems and comes with a factory warranty of 100k. I think she got it for 27K new with nav, sun roof, and whatever else stuff she wanted.

I have driven it a few times and it's a great car. I can get the front tires to spin a little with that turbo. Runs on regular gas and I think the highway mileage is low 30.

Something to look into.

Toyota FTW!   I had a Suburban way back when (1999) I got a 2003 4Runner (2wd) and that thing is SOLID as a ROCK and not a chevy rock I'm talking a real rock! My DD is a company car, Toyota Prius. Yea, go ahead and laugh.. 45 mpg with my foot plowed into it all day. The car is very peppy, roomy and extremely reliable. This is my 3rd Prius as a company car, having totaled 1, sold the 2nd to my uncle and plan to buy out the one I'm in when it's time.  I am partial to Toyota (my parent company) but you can't go wrong with Honda, Kia, Hyundai and Nissan.

Stay away from Mitsubishi (quality)  & Subaru (repair cost).

I will not own another foreign car... even if it is made in the states. And I don't do Fords either. American all the way, regardless if it has some foreign parts in it or not. Chevy, GMC or Cummins... But I am broke so probably going to have what I got for the next 20 years //;D//

I will give up some MPGs for some lux and space. So I would like a midsize or fullsize car. Going from an SUV to a car is going to be a hard transition with 2 kids. Wife is the primary driver, I will only be driving it on trips and hopefully not even then  //;D//

2011+ KIA Optima is at the top of my list. My wife on the other hand is leaning more towards a Honda Accord.

Leather is a must, big trunk, decent leg room in the back would be good too.

Looked at a 2013 Jetta, but it was not real roomy.

Im with AJ. Toyota. 4Runners are great my Dad had a 98 he drove for 250K never had any issues out if. Drove that until he traded it in for his 2011 he got about three years ago. More room then the commander, I'm pretty sure they get better MPG but that I don't know for sure.

I do like those new Kia's though. Look sharp and I hear good things.

Test drive a lot. Isn't that the best part of finding new cars anyways
