Anyone replaced a timing belt on a 4cyl toyota?
« on: March 21, 2016, 01:14:54 PM »
Jordan's timing belt broke and so far the best price I've found is $475 but they recommended replacing the water pump at the same time for $525. The car really isn't worth much more than that so I'm not sure I want to drop that much cash in to it. Any help would be great. Thanks.

P.S. 1997 4cyl. LE model.

Is it really a timing belt or just a serpentine?

It's a timing belt. Gotta remove water pump and cover to replace. I looked at a video on YouTube. Looks daunting. It's prolly why they want $500 to do it.

That's not a bad price considering Volkswagens get $1000 for a timing belt change and they are 100% interface motors meaning belt breaks it tears a bunch of stuff up inside the motor.

Marc. Try calling Dubtech and ask for Justin. He did all my work on my Vw's but he will work on other brands

Thanks bobby. I will give him a call. At this point we're pretty much gonna sell her for scrap. I completely forgot that the Evap tank system was broken also. Add another $350 to the above list. Now it's really not worth fixing unless I can muster up the time to fix it myself.
