Fill me in. I have a store in town that sells it. Better, worse? Curious.

From what I understand is its pretty much the same other than they put the die in it to beable to tell the difference in it and the regular diesel which has a road tax added to the price. I have heard that the die can eventually cause problems with your injectors.

Offroad is so much cheaper because it doesn't carry a road tax beacuse its suppose to be run in offroad vehicles only. So if you get caught by Dot running it in a vehicle on the road it can carry some hefty fines.

How do they check? Its not like they pull over passenger diesels and check their tanks. I have run it a few times. Seem like it smoked more.

I am with Richard. Not sure I would get checked around here. I was thinking it might have a higher octane or something beneficail. Not worth it then.

DoWork is correct. Off road deisel is common where I am from in farm country. It is made to run in farm tractors/equipment so it does not carry the road tax that normal commercial diesel does. It is suppose to have some kind of dye that causes an off color (and usually more) smoke. If they catch you fines are really big... I heard of a few back home who got caught, not by smoke, but by gas station camera's with video of them filling up their truck and driving off.

One of our partnering demolition company owners was talking about this a few weeks ago. He runs a F350 longbed as well and also has a filler tank in the back for emergency fill-ups on his equipment. At any rate, he has been pulled over for a check, and they've put a "dipstick" of sorts down into the tank and checked for the color. He always runs highway diesel, so he was good, but the fines are supposed to be pretty crazy.

Not for sure but I hear the fine is $10K for running ORD. Stay far away from it.
