Summit racing soft 8's
« on: February 15, 2013, 01:34:28 PM »
They are crap. Took a trip to nc and was getting some nasty vibes. Took the jeep to a highly recomended shop for a rebalance. One rim was bent right out of the box. I'm talking almost 1/2" of run out. The other 3 were fine. Just thought id post my experience with summit brand wheels. Buyer beware!!! I'm having to buy a replacement rim,and hopefully get refunded when I take it back. I'm worried they will hassle me because it was mounted

That seems to be a problem with the "big box stores" - They have to much going on to care about one box that got dropped or a customer that wasn't taken care of {no}

Yup, now I'm stuck paying 131.27 for a matching rim, including the labor for finding the problem. Lesson learned

The problem is buying steel rims to being with. They bend to easy and generally aren't that great. The only advantage to them is how cheap they are to begin with, but that won't matter if they don't last.

I bought some golf cart wheels with tires recently and they were so wobbly they all rubbed an arm when they came around and it sounded like a mice band coming.

Yeah, i bought soft 8's for my sub and had to have one replaced due to wobble. Next one i got did as well at certain speed. I need some alm wheels for the jeep. My steel wheels are bent in numerous places.
I've grown tired of this.

I was hoping that they were just re labeled brand name rims, like their other stuff. I bought summits "chambered race muffler" and it was a jones full boar in a plain jane box

Over the past 20+ years I have dealt with Summit, they have always made good with any issue I have had. Before were on the band wagon to bash a company or their products, let us know how this works out for you.

I learned many years ago as a dealer technician, "NEW" does not mean good, it only means Never Ever Worked.

This is the first time I've had a problem with their line of parts before. Although I did have a brand new coil with theresistor broken off, right out of the box. They told me over the phone they would have to look at it before they could say. But to me it looks like the welding machine was a little hung over. Either way I'll have a matching wheel for my fs spare(hopefully a non bent one)

Worst case scenario you have a matching spare.  Best case scenario they refund you for the wheel.
