Bone Marrow match needed
« on: March 12, 2013, 10:10:24 AM »
We have a friend who's kid has cancer and is in need of bone marrow. They have been testing people like crazy but no match so far. If any of you are age 44 or younger and are willing to sacrifice some of your own marrow please check out this link and take the test.

Here's a FB link to the story https://www.facebook.com/events/144797685684216/permalink/152057311624920/

And here's a link to get the free bone marrow test kit:

How strict are they on the age?  I am 45.

Can't imagine how tough this is for them...

I just signed up... should receive the kit in a couple weeks according to the web site.

I'm not sure.

Thanks jc79. The little guy went through kemo treatments and it seemed to have work and they thought he was in the clear but, everything came back in just a few months.

I'm in the registry. Have been for five years now. I actually just sent my email to renew and stay on the registry. I would gladly sacrifice a little marrow to save a life.

I was surprised to read that the "preferred" method is basically like a blood transfusion.  Blood goes out one arm, thru a machine, and back in the other arm.  Even the outpatient option seems pretty easy given what it means to the recipient. Glad this was posted today, I hope I get matched and can help someone.

That  is PBSC donation. Blood marrow is a little more involved.

For those of you that can't donate marrow but want to donate cash, you can send a check to the following person and it goes directly to the family.

I'm young and dumb, but what is involved for a bone marrow donor? I would love to help. I have 1 kid, and another due any day, and I'd want someone to do the same if anything happened to them
