I thought the Forest Service folks closed Bell Mtn trail in 2005? I remember them listing it on the gov website back then as permanently closed.

Someone check me in this but I believe the too if the mountain actually belongs to young Harris college and that's why it has remained open.

It is privately owned and cannot be closed by the first service.  The previous owner passed away but wanted it kept open to all to enjoy.  Unfortunately the graffiti and idiots may have killed that opportunity for us all.

This is true, but last I heard the college wasn't too keen on keeping this land. Liability reasons.

Had a conversation with a buddy in another jeep club that lives close to me and he confirmed Bell is closed. They rode over there Sunday and it was gated

Thanks for the update Bear. That's disappointing as there were some great views from the top.

I know the meeting place hasn't been determined yet but do you usually meet somewhere in the metro area and caravan up? Or meet at the trail head? The wife and I are thinking about staying up in Helen on Friday night as well.

Can't say for sure yet except we will meet in the hills early, but it might not be very near Helen.

We will end up not far from Helen... probably near or at Bell/ Hiawassee, and go from some Mexican.

May go up to the gate at Bell since we can still hike the last 200 yards.

Hey everybody. I am a paramedic so being a member would be tough with my schedule, but I was invited to ride with an Atlanta Jeep group last year and had a very good time. We done Flatlands, I think, in Suches. I would like to meet up to do this ride with y'all if everyone is ok with it. Im pretty familiar with the area, I fly fish it often, so I should be able to find the meeting spot. I bring my own tools and can fix my own junk for the most part so I won't show up needing my tail lights wired or puking oil. I also have no problem patiently telling the noobs they are in neutral not 4 Lo.  //LMAO//

BTW i talk kind of slow so it is probably a good thing I don't have a CB yet.  //SLAMIN//

Edit: I removed one of the two places that I was taken to last year. I was not told it was illegal my one time being there.

TJ05World and I are going to meet in the Kennesaw area and caravan up there.  Anyone who is interested, meet us at the Publix at the intersection of Old 41 Hwy & Barrett Parkway.  The time is TBD based on the actual plan for this ride, but my guess is we'll leave the Publix parking lot at 6:45am since the "driver's meeting" is usually at 9am and it is about 2 hours to Helen.

As you probably have seen from my other posts, I drive ~<65MPH when towing the Jeep...and I'll be towing the Jeep this trip.

I'll be on channel 7 on the CB on the HWY if you want to meet up on the highway.
