It'd you are having cb trouble you may need parts.  There are a few great truck stops with great prices on the way to al.  Coax cable, antenna, etc

I've got a borrowed SWR meter at the house.  I'll try and remember to throw it in the Jeep before I leave in the morning.  I'm in a Silver TJ Rubicon with a hardtop and a green tennis ball on my antenna.  Find me on Saturday and I'll try and dial it in for you although I've only ever done a couple of these.  If you have a steel whip, bring some big sidecuts or some way to cut it as we may need to nibble on it if there's no way to move it up and down.  If you've got a fiberglass whip, you've probably got a thumbscrew at the top under the cap.
