12 pt can work on a 6, 6 won't work on a 12. 12 works great on the new stuff... any surface rust and I try try find the 6

The Craftsman set I bought 10 years ago when they were made in the USA has both 12 and 6 point sockets.  12 point sockets work on square nuts.  Personally I prefer Kobalt over Craftsman now that they all make stuff in China.  Both have the lifetime guarantee, but Lowes is a lot better at exchanging a broken tool than Sears.

Sears always beefs up the tool "count" with a bunch of allen wrenches and screw bits.  Personally when I want a loose allen wrench I want it with the ball end and in a holder so I can find the one I want, not flat ends loose in a pouch.

Straight alens only work straight on, ballend can get at it, at an angle.

I had to use one to remove front axle cover bolt while dodging the tie rod directly in front of it.
