What axles would a 92 XJ have under it? Someone has just about given me a 1992 Grand Cherokee and I was wondering what kinda axles it has. It has a 4.0 h.o. and auto transmission

XJ's were made from 84-01. ZJ's were made from 93-98, so it's not a grand

It should have a high pinion D30 and could have a D35 or 27 spline 8.25 rear. Post a picture of the rear diff and I can tell you which it is. AW4 transmission.

I wouldn't swap them in, it would be a lot of work for no upgrade.

What size tires do you plan to run?  Do you mind a wider axle (wms to wms) than you have now?

I was wanting to go a little wider...I have a narrow track now, off camber stuff gets kinda dicey at times. I have a 30 up front and amc 20 in rear. Done the upgrades to both but just wondering if a swap would help out

You can build the 30 to handle 35's easily, but the rear isn't a great option for a swap. I don't know the width differences between the CJ and the XJ, but I thought the CJ was a hair wider. Plus they're different bolt patterns so you're wheels won't bolt up.

I thought the xj wms to wms was ~60" and the cj7 was around ~55".

That's accurate, guess I was wrong. Always thought Todd was wider than me.

Todd put a wide track rear under his rig and spaced out the front wheels. It's great for getting around in the woods to hunt and fish but would just be more comfortable if it had a wider track. I had a dana 44 for the rear but in my horse trading around traded it in a package deal for some old truck parts

Heck, I wish I had full width axles under mine, especially last weekend.
