Shop Talk: Insulation
« on: April 12, 2014, 10:15:32 AM »
I have a 500 sq. ft. detached garage with sheet rock on the walls but no insulation.  I'm thinking of laying insulation in the attic and blowing insulation in the walls.  HD or Lowes rent the machine and sell the insulation.  Has anyone done this?  I haven't and am looking for  suggestions and/or insight.

Last summer my tools rusted bad.  Since then I have been using a dehumidifier and thought insulating the place would help the dehumidifing as well as keeping it warmer in the winter.

I've blown insulation twice. It's very itchy lol. Works very well though. It's pretty straight forward, get whatever R rating you're looking for and go to town.

Have done it a lot and exactly what he said.  //agree// very itchy, get a good mask not the paper crap ones, goggles are a plus too.

There are probably fire stops between the studs of the garage that will keep the blown insulation from filling up the wall.  If so, you may need to cut holes in the drywall.

We like the attic cat at home depot... very easy to use... and works great!
