Help!! which Fender Flares?
« on: May 01, 2014, 11:15:25 PM »
Im starting to look into some heavy duty metal fender flares and wander who's running which brand and what they like or dislike? I know i want metal fender flares for sure. I also think i want to go with steel too. Aluminum is much lighter but i like knowing i have the strength of steel when i brush up against trees. Any advice is much appreciated!

Mine are custom made with tubing that is tied
into the hoop which is welded onto the frame

I would say the poison spyder ones.  Nemisis looks cool too, and ACE engineering is the low cost option.  Alot of people stay away from these with JK's though, as the sheet metal can get damaged if you take a hard hit.  Plastic flares will flex.  I like the new MCE flares after seeing them on an ARB demo JK.

They have several finishes.

give some thought to just cutting and trimming the ones you have.

JK's sheet metal is thin.  Bolting heavy steel to it and then hoping it protects your jeep is an iffy proposition.  You lean into a tree or rock, yes, your steel fender is ok but what has it done to your body.  More weight, more money.  When I get personal with a rock or tree with my cut flares, and it has happened a number of times, the flare either pops back or a clip breaks.  Get a new clip put the flare back on...not a bad deal.

The steel/aluminum flares look cool no doubt but I'm not sold on them for the JK's unless you do some type of custom outer tube that connects back to the frame.

Agree with Tony all the way. Not a fan of bolting on more weight than needed. I love the look of them but can't justify the weight addition and cost to boot. Trim what you have as it will give your jeep an entirely new look altogether. Metal cloak is another good place to look if still wanting flares.
I've grown tired of this.

Wow this really opened up a new horizon. I never thought about what tcdawg said. I was going for how the fenders would never be damaged but.. it could hurt something more important.. the body. Thanks jgerhard for the other option. It looks like tjsahara really has the right idea hooking the fenders in to the bumper hoop. I wish i could weld... Krawler00 what are you recommending at metal cloak? Their standard metal ones? or is there some others?

Might want to look for a Jeep that's built stronger than a mini-van  //;D//  //()()//  //LMAO//

Metal cloak is similar on JKs to all the rest of the metal ones.  I like the MCE for the look but still flexible.  JP magazine used them in a feature as well but they are pretty new.  Bushwacker flares even can damage your body from the research on the interwebs.

I think Tony and Doug have the best looking cut fenders.  Envy is high for a cheap solution.

this is a decent photo of mine.  FYI, that rear passenger flare has been pulled off more than once.  One time, I think Adventure Park, it rode with someone else for most of the day after they picked it up. Got back home and bought new clips and back on it is.  //;D//

and the next question is, what inner liners are those...MetalCloak

Doug has PSC fenders, Bobby and JRay and Brant have good looking cut fenders.
