Tire questions
« on: May 09, 2014, 09:54:39 AM »
I'm in the market for some new tires, I have AT 285/75/16 (33's) on now. I drive a k1500 (camo truck on they trey mountain ride). My understanding is not to go larger that 33's  with the stock 10 bolt end  I think 3:73 gears  It's not  driven on the road much at all,  so I'm not worried about noise or tread life.
What's the difference between rock tires and mud tires?  I saw some Mickey Thompson Baja Claw at Pep Boys for $1200 a set.
If I'm paying that kinda cash, I want to make sure I get the right tires.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Kev

What kind of terrain are you going to be in?

I drive around town a little and to offroad parks sometimes and mostly stick to rocks. I have the MT TTC Baja claws now in the 35" flavor. In mud they eat all day long and clean out very well. In the rocks they have a sturdy strong sidewall that also has some flex to it. They hook up very well even when the tires or rocks are muddy and pull through things well. I'm very happy with them on my Cherocar.

Plus, they are sexy as hell.

I wouldn't put these on a DD, too aggressive and would be wasted with how quick they would wear out, but that doesn't apply to you.
