Thoughts on potential purchase??
« on: March 07, 2015, 07:18:42 PM »
So a buddy of my is looking at getting into the Jeep game  //SLAMIN//. He's found this one and I'm headed with him to check it out tomorrow. Just wanted to get any thoughts or advice? Especially TJ guys, I'm not quite as well versed on the TJ as the JK. Thanks for the help!

It looks pristine! Make sure 4wd works since they could have screwed it up when towing behind the rv.  I would encourage him to get a Rubicon if he is going to truly get into the scene instead of just wave at other jeeps at the mall or on a bypass trail.

That's a beauty.   Wouldn't buy it if going off road with it.   Sahara is the worst starting point.   For a few thousand more he can get an 03 rubi. I just saw one for 13.

The tow miles on the axles don't show on the odom if the transfer case was in neutral.

Thanks for the replies, I thought about potential damage from the towing so i'll be sure he checks the 4wd functionality. In regards to offroad, he most likely won't be doing anything serious, so a rubi might be unnecessary. But then again, I thought the same thing when I got mine, now I wish I had a rubi  //:hlp//

Hadn't thought of that, good point.

I suspect those are real miles, but if they moved locations a lot, it is easy to forget to set the thing in neutral at least once...at least for those who are absent minded.

I have a tan hard top I could be talked into selling, if he is really seeking a hardtop.  Again, hardtop and our style of wheeling don't play well together a lot of the time.

My buddy's budget is around 11k, so that limits the Rubi options, especially one in nice condition. What do you think a good price for the one he's looking at would be?

Just make sure it still has the Dana 44 in the rear. Some folks swap them out with a Dana 35 to sell them.
I'd offer 9k & go from there.

That was my thinking. And I will definitely be sure to check for the rear D44, it's one of the plus's of getting a Sahara with the 4.0L.
