Does anyone have any experience watching TV using Vstream 2 or Kingpin?

I follow my IT guy, and he doesn't care for Droid TV.

He recommends Roko3 and Apple TV4 and says they do everything.

He has no dish or cable and his kids and wife are happy.  His kids walk around with a tablet 24/7.  He has business Comcast at home unlimited and uses over 100gigs a month.

Doug...while true, I'm sure he uses over one hundred gig per month, that is not a great number to use for describing high usage...the Comcast non-business limit varies by locale, but is around 300 gig/mo.  I moved to Comcast business internet so I could get over their cap...500gig/mo is roughly the average at my place.

I have many Roku boxes and one Sony/Droid based platform.  Roku is the best, between those.  My vizio tv is a smart tv and I really like it for Netflix and Amazon.

My Vizio "smart" TV is fine for Netflix and Amazon.  I also subscribe to MHz (foreign mystery-suspense shows), but Vizio doesn't have an app for it.  But I can watch it through the BluRay player that does.  Uverse 6MB rate is fine for these.  I'd be happy to get rid of Comcast but wife watches a bunch of Lifetime and reality shows.

I use Roku3 because of one of the apps that it supports, plex.

We also use Plex, awesome software. I guess I need to go business.

I don't know how much total my it guy uses, 500g seems like your parked in front of the tv or huge video files downloading constantly.

I guess I'm still confused. With Roku or Apple TV can you stream things like the UFC fights for free? I don't want to hassle with a bunch of apps either.

How could you stream the ufc fights for free from anywhere?  I hear they are all over the internet the next day but never heard they could be streamed live but I'm no i.t kid.

I think people download it and then watch it from a hard drive server using software like plex on a roku or similar.

There are hacks for the various sticks/players that can allow you to get a lot of content streamed without paying for the content.  It is piracy, and should not be condoned unless you support Bernie Sanders as president.  Consider 'free streaming of pay content' the "illegal trail riding" of the entertainment industry.  Not preaching, just stating the facts.  Just because your friend Bill is participating in piracy, doesn't make it right

Having said that, there is a ton of free streaming of free content available on these systems.  Plus you can get a lot of foreign content.

Check out the Roku app/station list.

To break this down:
- Roku is a device with an operating system that you buy one time (unless you have multiple of them)
- Roku allows a bunch of video (and game) service providers to make apps that run on Roku boxes
- video service providers may be 'pay for service' or 'free service' content providers ('free' and 'pay' apply to the consumer, not Roku as a company)
- you can be a pirate and get 'pay for' content for free...I don't know how, but my friend Bill does.
