200k Dealer Warranties
« on: July 19, 2016, 12:34:17 AM »
What's yalls thoughts on those 20 year / 200k dealer warranties?

This is for my wife as she needs a car since she totaled hers. From the expensive car thread from last week. She does 25 - 30k miles a year so reaching that 200k within 6 to 7 years is possible.

Have been set on CPO becuase they knock a lot off a new price for a few miles, but that 200k warranty is enticing since she drives a lot.

Interesting concept.  How much money does it cost relative to the price of the car?

I typically don't prepay for services and goods, such as oil changes or tires, since so many things can change in your life that could make that a throw away piece of paper.  If in year two the car gets totaled, or you decide you need a minivan for an unexpected triplet birth, or you lose your job and have to downsize, or whatever...you still pay for the agreement, but can't use it.

If it cost 10% or more of the car, I'd just avoid it.  1% of the car, I would do it.  Between those percentages, I would just have to read my horoscope and see what it told me to do.

I heard on the radio that the Kia(I think, maybe some other brand) dealership in Cartersville was doubling the regular Kia warranty from 10/100K to 20/200K.

If that type of warranty comes included with a new car then that is a heck of a deal, especially someone that would legitimately put that kind of mileage on it quickly.

I don't think I would pay for the extra though

It doesn't cost anything extra.

Rick case does it for anything they have (kia, hyundai, maserati, fiat, mazad, and few others.)

Looked on Google and found a few ford dealers that did it. Look hard enough I'm sure there is a dealer for every brand.

Since it's not manufacturer backed, they can require what they want to keep the warranty and not violate any laws.

I wouldn't make this the basis for your decision. Rather just a nice to have for a car you already wanted. As you stated, they own the terms for the extended portion of the warranty and I would expect them to try and find any way possible not to honor it.

Reading a little more, don't think I would bite on anything not manufacturer based.

Short but to the point article:

Ran across that last night. Really based on the dealer and It's up to her really. It might be more appealing depending on what she choose.
