I spoke to the guy "Kevin" who owns the rig. ECM has the vin from the donor 04 Chevy 2500. It only has one set of o2 sensors and no cats.  Plot thickens because it is also a rebuilt title. He isn't required to have emissions so he has never had to pass it. As awesome as the rig looks (he emailed me build pictures). Too many variables for me to drop this kind of coin with the uncertainty about passing emissions which is a requirement where I live.

No mention of the rebuilt title in the ad.... kind of shady.

I would be curious to see what would actually happen at an inspection station when you pulling in the jeep which clearly was never offered with a V8. How in depth would the inspector look into it before plugging into the OBD2 port and reading the correct Jeep VIN and no CEL light or monitors on.

I'd love to drag that thing down to my emissions station (the local car wash) and have them run it.  The kids that work there don't usually do anything other than tell me how much they love the current vehicle being tested (well, no one ever praised the Tundra).

I spoke with Cobb County Tag and they said the only way to exempt the emissions for this vehicle was to get a waiver from the Clean Air people...So, I tried to actually reach one of them...they have the automated phone system setup such that you can't reach a real person!

My Jeep has the CEL lit...I think on the 98 you can reset it and go immediately and it will pass.

If I go see this thing, I'll take my code reader and see what it spits out of the OBDII.

Shotgun if you go

Talked it over with John and for the same reasons, it just isn't worth it.  I was very close to being an obligatory member of the WJM...but it must not have been meant to be. :)

Sometimes there are more important things like quality of school system over emissions requirements In a given county.   Such is life.

Haha, yeah I was going to respond that I can't imagine choosing something as important as where to live based on emissions testing!

I have not nor will I ever consider it a criteria for where to live....

Amen!  Having said that, it would not prevent me from living in an area, either.  At this particular time, I would like to have a plot of land that could get me out of this emissions BS.  I have to wait 7 more years before my TJ is in the clear.

Or you could just fix the emissions... Ya know root cause and all that...

On my TJ...I still have to find out where this mysterious MAF sensor is located!

On the White LJ...it is the mismatched engine/model_year thing, plus not knowing exactly what all would need to be done (cats, O2 sensors, other?)
