i never want to rebuild a hub again
« on: June 24, 2008, 09:39:35 PM »
well it's a couple days before the tellico trip and i have a little bit of death wobble.  so i decided to repack the bearings and see if that helps any.  no luck, i decided to replace all the steering complonets (minus one), no help.  so i lift the jeep up notice theres some play in the knuckle, pull the hub apart tighten the knuckle, helped a little but still there.  back in the garage lift it again there's play, pull the hub again, double check things, tighten every thing so theres no play, another test drive, wobble.  back in the garage and notice theres play in the knuckle again.  today bought some new ball joints, tore apart the hubs again to get to the knuckle, replaced the ball joints, and the one steering arm that i didn't replace earlier.  and ran out of time for today.  i did find this little adjusting sleave that was way loose for the ball joints so i think i might have found my problem.  find out tomorrow.  either way it's not a show stopper for me.

Alot of us are having issues before this ride it seems. Funnt how that works! I just spent the last 4 hours fixing "hopefully" a gas tank leak. Had to cut my exhaust off by 6 inches, remove the shock, grind and putty the spot. Now I have to redo my exhaust hangar and cut about 3 more inches off the exhaust due to the way it is exiting. MAN, IT NEVER ENDS!
I've grown tired of this.

I will be spending the afternoon replacing my front pinion seal and possibly my radiator. its been leaking slowly since I bought it. Of course it has never overheated before this week.

Rear drive shaft twisted,
5 teeth broken on front ring gear
Lock right busted
Front yokes and axles worn/loose at joint,
Bushings worn out in upper rear control arms,
All in a week!
Is it "Lide take Visa" or "Visa takes life"?

i'm pretty sure this was the last time till i have to do just a basic repacking of the bearings.  there's a ton more work that needs to be done but then i wouldn't make the trip.
