Thoughts on this rig?

I saw this on Hardline.  I’d like to hear what you think.  Looks like a lot for $8k.

I've heard that mounting the ram to the front diff cover typically causes leaks - looks like a good little puddle underneath it and tires don't look like they have a ton of life left in them. But looks like a lot of fun for the $$ though! The brand new crate motor is nice at that price point.

If you could get it for $7500 I think that would be a good price for a beater rig like that. Given that it has a 4 speed manual the 4.56 gears should be plenty when everything is locked in low. The only change I would make would be get rid of the leaf springs and link it.

Thanks for the feedback.  I’d look at it as a starter rig to build upon.

Agree about the height.  Would definitely redo the front to coilovers.  I’d probably pound on it a couple rides then strip is down to the frame and start from there including spending $1k on vintage a/c kit.  I think it has the components to build upon.  $7500 would be a decent price - there is a reason nobody has grabbed it up.  It’s not an LS but I know SBC’s as I grew up building them.

It's a long haul to Pennsylvania to pick it up.
I thought about inquiring about it until I realized where it was located.

Maybe another $900. Use it as part of your negotiation with him.

Drive up to Pa.  Take that thing to Rausch to shake it out.  You’ll know if it’s worth a damn then

Just talked to the guy on the phone.  He bought it bone stock and built it over the past 10 years.  He’s works as a metal fabricator and is a mechincal engineer.  I got the full scoop on the rig both good and bad.  He said it’s been on every trail at Rousch which is close to where he lives.

Going to give it some thought this weekend.

We don’t need no stinking sleeves.
