Handheld Radios
« on: January 19, 2022, 07:25:32 PM »
I’m looking for a mount for my handheld Rugged Ridge GMRS Radio for a 1998 Jeep Wrangler. I had one for my 2014 JK that was installed on the passenger side grab bar but haven’t found one for the TJ. How do you guys secure your hand held radios?

With the clip on the back of the handheld ...seems like in my TJ
I would clip it on the sun visor.

On my JKU I just clip it on the vent

The visor has worked well for me so far. Just wondering if there was a more professional installation. Thanks!

With all that free time you’ve got now a days seems like you could fabricate something up to mount around the console gear shift area.

I'm buying this one. Would be a good option for those with tubes/rollcages and not much else.

*cheaper on ebay ($25) but no good pics there

That is sharp!

I've just been using a velcro strap around the cage and some cut up rubber to keep it from moving. It's secure but you can't easily undo it so I leave it for the whole day. Makes talking inconvenient.

My plan is to mount this universal radio clip to the RAM mounting system popular with the GoPro cameras. I’ve already installed the mounting bracket in the tray of the TJ and waiting on the bracket from eBay.

I ended up just manually programming mine because my laptop/cable combo wouldn’t communicate with my radio. Took a while but finally got it done.
