Question about Concealed Carry
« on: September 17, 2008, 09:55:25 PM »
So, I am getting a handgun soon and want to go ahead and apply for my CCL. I've been reading georgiapacking.org and georgiacarry.org and still have one question:

I live, work, and go to school in Bibb County but my permanent address (the address on my driver's license) is in Columbia County. Can I apply for my CCL at the Bibb probate court or do I have to go to the Columbia County probate court?

Damn. I rarely go to Augusta and its even rarer that I am there on a weekday. Maybe around Thanksgiving.

I have heard you can apply where ever you want just like driver license. Because Bibb county is very slow and houston is quick so a few guys I know have went to houston county to get them. Chris can you find this on the internet any where because I will be going friday to houston county to find out?

Jimmy, if you have a utility bill with your Bibb Co. address you can get a new DL there and then get your CC permit there too.  A lot cheaper than gas to Augusta.  I don't know jack about CC permits, this just seems like the easiest way to me.
edit:  you actually don't even need proof of your new address and you may even be able to get a new one for free, check this out:http://www.dds.ga.gov/drivers/DLdata.aspx?con=1748208403&ty=dl

You could also ask the local police department or the probate office.

Applicants shall submit the application for a license or renewal license to the judge of the probate court on forms prescribed and furnished free of charge to persons wishing to apply for the license or renewal license. An applicant who is not a United States citizen shall provide sufficient personal identifying data, including without limitation his or her place of birth and United States issued alien or admission number, as the Georgia Bureau of Investigation may prescribe by rule or regulation. An applicant who is in nonimmigrant status shall provide proof of his or her qualifications for an exception to the federal firearm prohibition pursuant to 18 U.S.C. Section 922(y). Forms shall be designed to elicit information from the applicant pertinent to his or her eligibility under this Code section, including citizenship, but shall not require data which is nonpertinent or irrelevant such as serial numbers or other identification capable of being used as a de facto registration of firearms owned by the applicant. The Department of Public Safety shall furnish application forms and license forms required by this Code section. The forms shall be furnished to each judge of each probate court within the state at no cost.
