How much would you say a trail rig only... say XJ... kinda cut up, 35's at most, some armor, cage, and a 1 car trailer weigh... say under 5k lbs maybe?

Depends on the trailer. That XJ is probably around 3500 lbs or so (I'm guessing here, please correct me if I'm wrong). So, that would be 1500 lbs for a trailer. The biggest thing though is not the pulling, its the stopping.

well trailer brakes are a must! Just curious if the liberty could pull (and stop) a trailer. Meg wants a trail rig once we get a house so seeing if it is possible... Tow rating on the 2007 liberty is 5k.

I wouldn't tow a vehicle with a vehicle thats roughly the same size. My buddy towed his XJ to Tellico with his WJ. Front brakes on the WJ caught on fire in the mountains. He peed on the wheels to put the fire out, lol.

Wouldn't even consider it, XJ's would go easy 4000 lbs. trail ready.

yeah, not a great idea. get a tow pig, you can find em cheap if you keep your eyes open. a diesel will run 5, 6, 700,000mi before a rebuild if its taken care of so dont let miles scare you away.

The Tahoe does fine with a TJ and a trailer with good brakes.

The 2500HD didn't even know the trailer and Tahoe were back there.

Would it be better with a TJ/YJ? Not sure there is enough weight difference there to matter... Sucks the JK is only rated at 3K...
