I-70 Closed west of Denver for Moab route- Rock Slide Photos

Another reason to stick with the southern route.  Imagine heading thru here at 80mph, and suddenly  BAM!

http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_14633690

A rockslide on Interstate 70 near Glenwood Springs overnight smashed through a bridge and dumped boulders the size of tractor trailers on the highway, closing a 17-mile stretch of the road.

The slide struck at about midnight just west of the Hanging Lake Tunnel in Glenwood Canyon.

It punched two gaping holes in the westbound bridge lanes and left large boulders strewn across the westbound and eastbound lanes.

No injuries or damage to vehicles were reported.

The collapse will cause major problems for truckers and other motorists, who must travel 200 miles to avoid the slide.  "You couldn't have picked a worse location, because there is no work-around. That is one of the real choke points in the system,"

South it is then. Less wear on the tranny as well. Maybe go the northern route back. Would love to see the scenery!
I've grown tired of this.

There was rock slide on I-40 back in October and they are still working on getting that cleaned up. Hopefully this one takes less then that.

Damn that is pretty nasty.  I 70 through Glenwood Canyon was the most expensive section of America's interstate system to build.

I've seen Ben drive. I'm pretty sure he meant he could crawl it in the Burb. Then go back and get the Jeep.  {toast}
