I think you should look into both A LOT more, think about your decision and stick with something. IMO... just my .02

indeed i am, i know everything about the grand cherokee. its been in the family since well i think the mid 00' its been totaled twice now and rebuilt completely. its just im hard on my vehicles like i killed a D44 daily driving. i dont expect that D35 in the ZJ to last under the 5.2L. and the ZJ is gunna be substantially more expensive to build then the toyota. but im just not sure, i like toyota's that 4runner i had was awesome. well except for the IFS. but I like to think i'm knowledgeable  when it comes to the jeep thing.

If it is a 96, the ZJ has a D44a in the back, not a 35. It is much stronger and besides the housing, it is on par with the regular D44 and 8.8. And a ZJ isn't hard to build up as long as you got at it with a good plan and aren't afraid of cutting sheet metal.

its a 97 Orvis edition 5.2L v8 im not sure if its got a D44a i really like that the ZJ is really flexy. i havent heard back from the toyota guy so chances are im sticking with my FREE ZJ

96-98 V8 ZJ's have the 44a. Easiest way to check if you don't know, besides knowing its not a 35, is to stick a magnet to the housing, not the cover. The housing is made of aluminum so the magnet won't stick.

What do you think the "A" stands for? Its technical name is the D44HD because it has stronger internals then the normal D44 (not sure how it compares to the JK 44).

It makes for a lighter housing but it is known for chewing up bearings if it's not trussed.
