Still working on Aenta carnage
« on: September 28, 2011, 10:28:39 AM »
Well so much for boasting I've never broke or messed up anything (learned a lesson)

1) Bent tie rod
I got my ZJ tie rod up grade put on.
2) Had the bolt break off my right front lower control arm and bent the bracket.
Got that fixed (small sledge hammer)
3) Blowed the left back brake shoe wheel cylinder
Replaced both sides and brake shoes
4) Now I notice where my clicking noise is coming from
Got a cap missing off my left front axle shaft u-joint

Got to get that fixed before Gatrfest
I hadn't ever pulled the axle shaft before so I'm debating on weither or not
to try the u-joint by myself.

I won't be able to put my new rearend and regear the front before then though.

Aetna will do that to you... A big reason I worry a little everytime I think of going back.

Axle shaft removal is easy, it's a 34 or 36mm nut (can't remember which) to remove the UB retainer nut and 3-13mm 12pt bolts hold the UB to the knuckle.

No need to pull the 36 mm hub nut, just take the bolts out on the inside and remove hub and unit bearing in one piece, takes longer to pull the wheel and brakes than it does the axle. Ryan got good at it, he could change both side in about 30 minutes. I would change it myself Kevin, no need to pat shop labor for that, you are so lucky not to have killed the shafts because that is the main way it happens. You need to keep a good check at Fest to make sure that you haven't stretched an ear on the axle.  {toast}

Sorry to hear all the issues. Get her all ready for the fest!
I've grown tired of this.

Kevin,

I have a U joint tool. Your more than welcome to use it when I get back in town. Pull the shaft and bring it over, we can have the u joint changed in a couple minutes and tac the new caps in.
