That sucks.  just finished filling my rear diff with 80w90 gear oil, filled till it started oozing out the fill plug.  simple.  no metal chunks on the drain plug so that was good news.   bad news, did not get sufficient gear oil to do the front, so.  need to run to the store to get  1.35 quarts or 2.7pints.    this seems easyer than changing the engine oil.   //SLAMIN//

i wonder if i need different oil once i get lockers?  or keep using cheap stuff.  im trying to do this as often as i change my engine oil.  unless i dont wheel any between engine oil changes..  still new to all this maintenance stuff.

I use a more expensive oil product (Lucas) and I run the 85-140 non-synthetic oil in my diffs.  I have 4.88 gears with a real locker in both.  As we come into winter, I *may* switch to 80-90, but more research (internet reading) is needed.

Here is Currie Enterprises' stance on that subject for one of their rear ends (Step 5), which is referenced in post 61 at the link above:  http://www.currieenterprises.com/instruction_sheets/SummitInstructions_adder.pdf

More leverage. You have a pipe or something you can slide over the tool your using to give you more leverage?

Good idea not to drain it before you get the fill plug out.   //SKULL//

Don't torque it down so tight when you put in back in.

Yep. I keep a nice piece of pipe in the garage just for this type of job.  //cheers2//
