Paying Attention

Attention.
We all want some attention once in awhile. To have the full and undivided time and attention from someone, whether its someone you know or someone else. It's natural. It makes you feel special and good, because attention, real focus, is difficult to find now a days.
Tonight I had dinner with four adults including my nana. It was her 75th birthday. All of them were worried I wouldn't want to go with them because they were "just a bunch of old people", but even though it wasn't my ideal Saturday night, I'm so thankful I went. Tonight, I saw what it was like to have someone really pay attention. This generation didn't grow up with iPhones and Facebook. They were raised within the conversation and house parties era. To get to know someone, you didn't just find them on Facebook; you physically talked with them and gave them your time and efforts. You weren't distracted by the technology around you. Your focus was with people. Not one of these four people had a phone out, nor did they concern themselves with anything related to it. I heard and saw conversation filled with laughter, stories from the past, and friendships that are still so strong all because it wasn't about the concerns they had for themselves, but rather the concerns of others. They have paid attention.
So instead of seeking attention so much, I think if we start paying attention more, how much richer our lives will be, deeper our friendships, and better our future.
Today, I am thankful for paying attention.
