I went to harbor freight during lunch yesterday, with no specific purchase in mind.  I walked out of there without buying anything...first time ever!

You're better off for it.  Bunch of junk in there.
I half agree.  I hear that they have some decent floor jacks. LOL
But seriously,  I plan to get the 1.5 ton aluminum jack for the cars. The front is too low for my floor jacks. Plus,  I have a coupon for to get one for $59.99.

I need to check the brakes on my car, so I'm hoping my current jack can get under it...otherwise I'll likely be there buying one like you mentioned since it'll only get used once every year or two.

I don't consider it a smart move to go into a store known to sell defective tools and buy a piece of safety equipment.  It breaks and you're dead. To me, doesn't matter if it's a diamond in the rough of broken tools. I'd rather spend a little more.

I agree with your assessment, but I think it's misplaced.  You can use a crap tool to put the vehicle in a position that is secured by a quality tool.  I wouldn't trust any jack to hold up a vehicle under which I plan to put my body, so I always use a quality jack stand (how do you really know if it's quality?) if I'm getting under the vehicle.

.

True, Jack lets go even with jack stands I might soil my pants.
Uh..I actually put the Jack stands under it, then release the Jack so the weight is on the stands, then I lock in the Jack as an extra measure in case the stands let go...most of the time.

I do the same.  Still not buying a crap tool :)
That is something I can respect!
