Some people say they want their whole bonus and not to have 401k taken out.  I'm completely opposite.  Since bonus is taxed higher, there is no better time than to move as much out pre-tax as you can.

True, the withholding rate is 25% for a "BONUS" if they put it in as such, so I follow your thinking.  And you know your actual taxes paid are unchanged when you file next year for the same total if you received a bonus or not.  It stops folks from changing their W4 just before bonus time and having little taken out.

Why would anyone ever not save at least the matching amount in their 401K.  It blows my mind.  I've seen hourly millionaires in the warehouse and I've seen 25+ year employees that didn't participate.

I think a lot of people start off with the "i don't make enough" to save mentality. And when they finally make more, keeping up with the Jones' means they still want all their money now.

Then there is the other half who have no concept of saving, dont understand the taxes behind it,  and don't have any peers/family who can tell them why they should.

If I understand it correctly, companies are better off when they claim extra pay as a "bonus" than to pay an employee through a regular check, correct? Something about its better for them at tax time.

My "bonus" has been the 1000 point rise in the stock market since Trump's election.  Guess we'll see if I get to keep it.  :)

My wife is trying to dabble in it. I think it requires her to more actively watch the market and ain't nobody got time for that around my house right now

I'd like to do some currency trading, specifically with the peso over the next few years.
