Insane bright LEDs for da rig
« on: November 14, 2012, 08:33:16 PM »
So check this out. I have a set of 14 stupid bright lights each containing 34 military grade LEDs that have been sitting in my garage. They are designed for a Striker Armored Vehicle and are about 4"x 6" big.  I have all the wiring and even its own switch box to controle individual "zones" of 2 lights each.
Here's the hang up, it's designed to run off of a 24 volt system. I attempted to get at least one zone of 2 working on my old rig, but could never get them to fire up. I admit, I am by NO means savey with electrical anything that I cant just plug into a wall, so I guess my question would be is there a way to get this to work on a 12 volt system? I'm sure it would work just fine and I just wired it stupid or something when I tried last time.
 Suggestions?
On a side note, There is no way I am going to be able to mount all of these things onto my rig, so if I can get these to working I mite have some for sale or something. Like $20 or so for a set of 2 because at most I'll use 4 on mine. Anyone who can give me a way to get these running, I'll give you a set. Deal?  {cheers2}

They make DC to DC booster converters for 12 to 24 volt configurations with screw type terminals. They are going to be a little pricey and require a little bit of room. But if your set on running those lights that would probably be your best option. Hope this helped some

Who makes them? I bet it's cheaper than buying lights.

Quick search turned this up.  Looks like boats use them for lighting.

If that works, i might grab the extras you have.
There is a couple of options (like these). Its like any other part, just have to do some research and decide what would be best for you.

My plan is 2 on either side of the windshield, 2 on the bumper, and 2 underneath. IF I can get it to work of course.
