Title: Aenta in October 11th
Post by: lt99ls1 on September 17, 2008, 09:58:33 AM
I would be willing to drag (lead) a group around Aenta. I just ask that the folks that come to be ready to hang out an have a good time wheelin. It will be the mix of trails from hard to easy. I am going to bring a few folks from NAXJA too. I will be avoiding as much of the mud as possible.
Cracker Barrel at 9:30 am October 11th.

Cracker Barrel
50 Birmingham Hwy
Chattanooga, TN 37419

Is Aetna now open? Old post back in May said it was closed. Any details on what has happened?
 Thanks.

It is open and legal.  Short story is the "big shot" land guy tried to illegally put up a gate on a public county road that would have lock out other land owners from thier land. One of the other land owners showed up on the day they where going put up the gate with a court order from a gudge saying "it is against the law for you to do that".  There are a couple news items on The Chattanooga news free press's website about all of it.

They have to leave the road open. IF we can't park at the bottom then we will park at Belico and drive in.

I'm might be up for it if its dry.

If its wet I might ride with my cousin  if I can get him to go or ride my Husky!

I got a bit of a to-do list before then but I'll try to make it.

LOL. I have no rear bumper as of tonight.

Making a hitch/bumper/D-ring mount thing LOL.

Ill slam on it thi week and maybe have it done by next weekish.

I'm using the stock bumper but adding a hitch that fits up against the bottom of the bumper and mounting some Clevis's thru the bumper then putting the reciever thru the bumper too.

You going Drew?

Aight because I've never used my parking brake wheeling before. Guy I bought the Jeep from told me the stealership quoted them $300 bucks to fix it. I might can rig up something on it. It'll engage just not diengage.

I'm going to buy a fire extinquisher at the industrial supply place and mount it somewhere cool.

I hope the weather cooperates dang it. Looks like we ahve several people going too. Looked on NAXJA. Got like 5 over there wanting to go for sure.

WHat time we meeting where?

I'd love to come out and run with you guys that weekend.  My only concern is that my Jeep still doesn't have a lift kit or 32's. (Won't get that stuff til March most likely.)  Is Aetna stock Jeep friendly? Just to come spectate the bigger obstacles and start meeting you guys is all I really wanna do.  But I don't wanna be the guy you're stopping to help every 5 minutes.    :P

This is not an Offical ride. But the more stuff you have on the "list" the better off you are on any ride.

Yeah I know that lt99ls1 but I was just chacking. I have a CB(installing soon), picking up a fire extinquisher and I got front and rear recovery. Working on the hi-lift and parking brake thing.

I talked to my cousin he thinks him and my buddy will have his XJ done by then. I can get a TJ to go too.

I'm really hoping that one group will be the DDing stocker/closem to stock rigs and the other be the non dders and those who don care to get it scratched. That way everyone can have fun without risking too much and the bigger rigs wont have to crawl thru the crappy easy stuff LOL.

My shit aint broke and I want it to stay that way so I wanna take it easy on its first run out.

That cool?

There should be bypasses for most everything. I understand not wanting to hurt a DD.
Title: Re: Aenta in October 11th
Post by: broncofire75 on September 25, 2008, 11:13:35 PM
Ive been up there an we found the not so good bypasses. I'm not sure which way we're planning on going but we went up the public trail out to where you got across 2 powerlines and come out to Ball's Hill. It was rough but I saw several stockers playin in Peanut Butter Hole and have no idea how they wouldve gotten through there. I did see alot of bypasses out in the open but it was raining the night before and everything was crazy slick.

I was on a 2wd 250 4wheeler but at that time I couldnt even think of taking my XJ thru there. My cousin tried with a rear locker and 33" TSls and had to winch 4 times before we came out to where the big pic is of all the rigs at Aetna last year or whenever. We parked hime there and let him eride his dirt bike. He was pissed LOL. Hes going back with the understanding that yall know the better ways to run and will get us DDers thru without much trouble.

P.S. got my rear recovery(modified hitch bumper) almost done. Might start on some sliders. I've got 3 weeks I can gettem done to keep my trim looking decent LOL.

I think there are cabins on Racoon mountain too. But I do not know what all they come with.
Title: Re: Aenta in October 11th
Post by: broncofire75 on September 26, 2008, 11:23:16 AM
All I know is we camped at the top of the mountain on the powerlines(you could see the big industrial building below us) and we went back the way we came bout 1/2 mile and went to the left towards what we were told was peanut butter hole. Is was absolutely nasty. I really dont know how to explain it LOL.

We ended up in a swamp bottom and there was like 4 other stuck rigs around us. If we had kept to the right we wouldve came out right below Ball's Hill. We came out on top.

Good news one more thing is off the lsit. Hitch. Still A lot more to go.

But Ill be there for sure. Forecast's showing no rain all next week so it should be pretty dry which is good for Aetna. Im sure theres still some sticky stuff though.

I got Friday off again I think so all the other stuff is going in and getting ready to go.

Who me? Nope SYE!

If not me then oh well.

Got bashed on NAXJA about the welds on my hitch but Ive seen some pretty gnarly welds that hold up and a gorilla welded(looks like shit but holds like a gorilla) mine. Ill be aight I reckon. I dont think I did too bad for it being the first build Ive done all by myself.

Welder was set at 20 and 395ish. Recommended 1/4" welding on the Miller 251 I used. Oh well.
Title: Re: Aenta in October 11th
Post by: ranger11 on October 04, 2008, 08:11:42 AM
Man if it was welded twice you will not be able to see the botoom weld. I always try to put as much stress on my welds as I can before I use the item. I say hook it to a tree and snatch not too hard but enough to know it will either break or hold up. Or have someone hook a wench cable and pull you in park. Either would put alot of stress on the whole assembely.

Ps post the link next time it took me forever to find yo post ;)

Made a new rear drive shaft, installed a new trans filter, trans gasket, straighten the belly up skid plate (nothing like droping a truck on the bely up to fix it  :D ), tighting the trans mount and mounted the York.

I'm running a cheap wal mart set up on CB, I don't know if the antenna will do any good on the mtn though, anyone use the $10 one they have there? my buddy already had one and gave it to me, it works alright on the highway, but I might have to upgrade..

It shouldnt be too bad. Just have to avoid the swamps/creeks is all.

2 days of 80 degree sun itll be dried up out on the powerlines at least. Just the bottoms that might get a little sticky.

the mountain really isn't hard to get up as long as you have a decent set of tires, it's just the ruts and stuff all the way back to the PB hole that might give you trouble, but it really isn't as bad as people make it out to be after a rain IMO

Ill follow you Jeremy. I know my cousin only knows a few of the trails that he says are tight so pretty in pink trails for me too LOL.

ya that was me, I stayed on the main trail for the most part, I definitely did my share of articulating through the side trails, but it was a little challenging and fun, got stuck going through a hole I had no business in but the guy with that crazy cj7 winched me out, they gave me a hard about it though but it was all sh*#s and giggles...I'll try and get a pic up of my junk stuck....

Juan, this is Shawn, the guy in the stock WK.  My wife was in the stock TJ.  I didn't see it, but I heard you guys had to stand on her bumper as she lifted two wheels coming down that left turn from the power lines.  Thanks for all of your help yesterday.  It was really great riding with folks that are into teamwork and communication.  You should've seen some of the stuff we did later in the day following Billy out.  I wish we had video of it, but we were all busy negotiating stuff some of the lifted guys were going around.  Look forward to riding with you again!

nwcj5 do you speak of the white one with the GA trail riders stickers on the side window and offcamber4wd windshield banner?  If so, that is mine.  Why?

Thanks again Juan for helping Shawn, his wife Niki and my wife out!  They did great wheeling.  Sorry I got split up from ya.  I thought everyone would wait up the top of the hill as I did the first obstacle.  I think my mall crawling gang wheeled great especially for this being the first real time my wife has wheeled and Shawn and Niki that was about there 2nd or 3rd time out.

I do believe I wheeled the pee out of my 30's!  I hope someone saw me in the peanut butter hole going up the one side!   ;D

Thanks to Chris and the others who set everything up.  Good to meet everyone!
