Title: What is your Reasonable Dream Build
Post by: Mortalis5509 on October 13, 2014, 08:27:38 PM
What is your dream build? I don't mean a no money expense build but a reasonable build that could run most trails.
Rig, suspension, axles, drivetrain, and ect.

Mine:
My greeen tj running the following:
1 ton's with 5.38's, arb rear, and detriot front
37's for street and 37's cheater tires for trail
Ford coyote 5.0 with some auto trans
Maybe a 4 speed atlas
4 link rear and 3 link front with hydro assist with JJ joints
2.0 coilovers with reserve
Already has a tied cage
Fiberglass hood with built in fenders and drop off a lot of front end weight and gain up travel
Around 103" wheelbase.

Lets see, an orange 2014 JKUR with a prorock 44, 37s, 3.5 inch lift as a starting point.  Don't know enough to say much more.

2011 has the body color for me though...I'm one big fat axle away from where I want to be and that is a long way.

Dana 60's front and rear.
arb air lockers front and rear.
RCV axle shafts
40s and Beadlocks
cage
coilovers
don't really know enough to list anything else

My jeep, plus Prorock 60 rear, new LS swap, hydro assist, cage, 10a hood, switch out bumpers and sliders. I know there is more. If you asked me this 3 years ago I'd likely say what I have now is plenty...addicting hobby.

Pulled with 7.3 diesel excursion or something else, but not sure.

Keeping it simple for me, I'd go for Tony's Jeep.  BAM!  DONE!

2D JK > LJ

2D JK is a lot more expensive as a base vehicle than a high mileage LJ!  :-) And you'd have to comp cut the rears to get the same wheelbase of a slightly stretched LJ. And the wiring harness and bracket kit for that LS swap is $5200 for a JK.... I've done that research. LJ > 2DR JK for an extreme build where you are literally removing the entire drivetrain.

I think you would have to comp cut the 2dr jk (95.4) to get the wheel base of a stock lj (103).

I would agree IF the Jeep was only used offroad.  My dream build is something that I can drive to the trails, wheel the hell out of it, and drive it home.

At this stage of my wheeling "life", I'd go with Doug's build above.  Might choose Spider 9" axles vs. the 60/70 combo.  42s might be big enough, but depends on what the WB ends up as.

I have so many different build ideas in my head that I will never get a chance to work on.....but one that has been on my list for a long time and would really be that expensive would be:

40's Willys flatfender body, only minor trimming for tire clearance
Buy a built but beat up toyota and take all the drivetrain
Toyota axles stock 4.11 or 4.88 gears rcvs plus the usual goodies
Toy 4cyl/ trans and tcase with 4.7 gears
Rear toyota leaf springs or stock YJ leafs all around
Simple roll cage setup
33 or 35's
Olive drab paint job

Perfect for Sunday drives around town and mild wheeling and forest service road exploring.
