Lol - I kept reading about how hi9s wouldn't hold up to JKU weight and too many broken pinions on pirate.
Were these web wheelers, or actual stories?
There is a white paper on the internet that discusses why 9s are good for go fast cars, but not good for off-road vehicles. I'll dig for it since I mentioned it.

I dont understand that. How would it be ok for go fast but not for wheeling? The amount of stress seen in a go fast events can be equivalent to years of wheeling.
Hi 10's are rear close to the price of mega hi 9's but not close to the strength.
Further more, who is setting up these 9's that jk are breaking. If the set up is not correct it will break stuff as well as bent housings. If the housing was not properly reinforced and flexes too much, it will also cause gears to go.
