Doug's post is spot on.  Should not only have written it a year or so ago, but then followed his own advice.

thats hilarious but raises a good question. Doug, if thats the advice you give then why do you continue to build up jeeps vs doing a trail only rig?

Sam you know I'm not telling you how to build your rig, you asked, and I gave you my opinion based on my experience and feelings.  Long term I know I want a lighter rig for my Moab and SE wheeling, but am not sure how im going to get there.  Will probably downsize tires on the JK and drive it a lot more. I wish I had the JK rubi axles still under it and on 35s but it is no longer a pristine vehicle.

The answer to why I keep building Jeeps if I feel that way is that I just recently came to this conclusion... I thought I could have both,
but having a nice JK keeps me from wheeling,
I hate trashing it and cleaning it, repeat..., risk of crushing it....
and I shall not do it again.

Might pull the axles, put into a LJ, and put a set of Jk axles back under it, but that would cost some coin too.

You know sometimes it's a snow ball effect
I intended to just do the AW4 swap then
a deal on dana 44 axles compared to my
Dana 30 and yes I said Super 35. Then well
if I do this for down the road...well if you do
that you might as well do this.......

Wished some one would have slapped me
and said....wait buy a decent buggy off hardline
for almost what your fixing to spend dumbass.

Don't get me wrong I love my Jeep and all the
quality parts on it that I really don't have to
worry about near as much....but in the end
I have a nice stretched TJ on 44's (chromoly
axles shafts) that probably never handle any
thing bigger than 37's.

I am happy with it and think I can do some
pretty good stuff with it....but it's never enough
Yes I've had criticism before and will again but
some people are hard headed. Problem is to many
think if I could just buy bolt on ready shit...... yea right

And yes sometimes I think it would be nice just
to have nice clean Jeep just to do the leaf looking

Oh wait snap out of it!!!

Kent, I don't do credit. I pay cash or wait till I have it all saved up. Dad taught me if you don't have the money, you don't buy it. But I sure wish I did! I get a bonus each year at xmas and that would have been a set of 37s...

Build it how you want. Get the axles and put the bigger tires on. You have a badass truck as a dd and you can drive the jeep on nicer days. You're a grown ass man treat yo' self

It all comes down to money.  If you can afford to do it there's no argument.  Tim Cameron builds a new buggy every time you blink and no one is dissing him for doing so.

So much of this and the other posts resonates with me.  I have learned alot over the last 3 years and have spent lots of money (like most of us) to get the TJ where it is today.  The problem is this damn club and the members.  Going on rides and seeing some of the obstacles people tackle made me want to be able to do that too and that's how I ended up where I am today.  Don't get me wrong, I love my stretched TJ and I know it's more capable than my willingness to try most obstacles.  However, I do wish I was armed with what I know today and I would have made some different decisions - but isn't that the case with everything in life.

BUT...it does make me better informed for any future builds.  This forum and the members have been a great learning resource.  I look forward to Dec (my next wheeling trip).

Absolutely!

I don't regret what I've done because I've learned a ton along the way. This was my first jeep and has introduced me to rock crawling.  Also, I love having the jeep on nice days to work or around town with the kids. I don't have storage (or a wife that tolerant) for jeep, tow rig, and buggy.

I just hate to see you mess up a nice Jeep when you get bigger tires and go into bigger areas.

One of the reason I sold my stickies on my tj. I'll think a little more about where I go but still doesn't stop me from putting it on the floor...lol.

Tony nailed it. At that time I should have just ordered ProRock 60's (full float rear) and been done with it.

For me, I will never do JY axles again.  I'll just buy new axles equipped how I want them.   I think alot of it has to do with my OCD and meticulous nature.
