I have a superwinch Talon 9.5i SR. I love my winch, wouldn't trade it. I've had it for about 6 months; a dozen or so pulls and no issues. It's fast too. I also run it off my stock battery with no issues. I did a significant amount of research on winches before buying mine. I started a thread about my winch buying process you may find helpful.

Looks like Rugged Ridge and Superwinch are looking like a winner for the price range. I did see a Warn VR8000 for $480 shipped. Is the VR8000 any good?

Once you go that high go for a full Warn like the M8000.  It will pull more than 8000.  Check it on amazon very good price.  Then later add the synthetic line.

Opinion alert:  VR series still china sourced winch.  I would go RR over that and rely on warranty with local shop like Allsouth.  /End Opinion.  1st post did ask for opinions  //;D//

My smitty has gotten me out of some tight jams.  Its the only one Ive had thus far but so far so good for a solid $300 winch.  Crappy thing is so much to choose from but I guess thats one of the things that draws us all to building these rigs.

That is not a bad price for a Warn M8000. $556 plus free shipping. That might be worth saving up another $250 and getting that one.

I haven't read all of the posts, but I would definitely recommend going ahead with a synthetic rope.
Not trying to plug, but we sell a ton of the Engo 9000S =  $400 (Delivered to your door step).
Okay plug over :)

I know there is a lot of praise for synthetic rope and I can't speak for it personally because I have never used it. But I did work for a wrecker company for 5 years and never had a problem with steel cable breaking. I always got irritated when I got there to work and the previous driver had left the cable all rat nested up. I would have to reel it all off and re-spool it nice and neat. If you keep steel cable spooled up nice and neat it pulls out with ease. I know everyone knows this already but I guess I am just saying this because I personally do not have a problem with steel cable. I will go synthetic at some point but for cost reasons I will probably buy a winch with steel cable for now.

Although $400 is not bad for a winch with synthetic cable (referring to my last post). What kind of warranty is offered on the Engo 9000S?
