Will it fit in my garage?
« on: August 18, 2011, 03:56:53 PM »
I posted this on JK Owners too but thought I would hit you guys up.

My garage door is exactly 81" when open
My stock JKU Rubicon currently sits at ~74" at the highest point of the soft top.
I have a 3.5 Rock Krawler lift on order
I want to go with 37" BFG KM2s

By my calcs:
74" at stock height +
(37"-32"=5")/2 = 2.5" of lift height from 37" tires +
3.5" from lift =
80" tall after lift and tires

That only leaves one inch of clearance. If I net any more from the RK 3.5" lift, I'm not going to fit in the garage am I?

Parking in the garage is more important than 37" tires but you know... I want 37s!

LMAO, I had the 5.5" and 40's and parked in the garage all the time with the same door.

Usually had the Off Road Heros top on.

Had to air down if the factory soft top was on it.  ;D

You're good with 37's, but you'll need a supercharger until you get 5.38's.  Since you are daily driving, I'd stay with 35's.  40's REALLY killed it.

The 37s won't measure 37, prolly more like 36.6 or something. Then when the tires are weighted down under the load of the Jeep they will flex out a little, but I'm not sure how much clearance you would gain for that.

Get the 37s bro.  ;D

I edited my 1st post so don't miss it.

Clearance was a big concern for me, and I remember I was 80.5" at Allsouth to the top of the windshield, and had 81" clear on the door.

Yep, come by and measure if you like.

It rubbed the rubber trim overhead with the HARD TOP when I first got it, but after it settled and I added the Poison Spyder Fenders and Corners, cleared with no issues when I loaded the soft top, and hard top over it for the journey to the new owner.  Probably would have cleared the factory soft top too.

Yes to all that except get 37's.  You'll need a superchips fo sho. And more chance for carnage.  Enjoy it awhile as your daily driver on 35's and get Rock Hard or some other skids for the belly.  The gas tank skid is like aluminum foil anyway.

Seth
I went back and forth a hundred times when I was getting my new wheels and tires about 6 weeks ago. 35's or 37's....got a headache over it once just reading up on what CAN be done vs what SHOULD  be done for 37's.

I decided that I would do 35's now(got the MT/R's, there killer), wheel it and work on my build over time to do 37's right, if I really feel the need at all.

I recently re-geared to 5.38 and added the C gussets,  and have some RK stuff coming to replace my saggy and sucky 3.5" rough country crap. I'll do other things as I find deals.

I'm pleased with my choice so far, it wheels real nice on the 35's.

Just my 2 cents.
